What to expect in this course

These award courses bring together the disciplines of animal health and wildlife population management, providing students with a coordinated approach to recognising and solving problems in field populations.

Students take core and optional units of study that
comprise different combinations of lectures, seminars,
tutorials, field trips and/or practical sessions, and
private study. Training involves study of the theoretical
background of topics in wildlife health and population
management, as well as obtaining hands-on skills in
sampling field populations and diagnosing management
problems. Emphasis is placed on using scientific
methodology in all aspects of wildlife investigations.

Who should complete these courses?

 

Anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of
wildlife research to include wildlife health and
management, particularly:

  • Recent graduates in Science or Veterinary Science
  • Practicing Veterinary surgeons
  • Officers in Local, State and Federal Government agencies involved in environmental science, environmental management or natural resource management who wish to extend their knowledge to wildlife health and the management of native and pest species
  • Professionals from organisations such as the
    Australian Veterinary Association
  • Environmental consultants

About the Camden campus

 

The Wildlife Health and Population Management course is based at the Camden campus and some of the units are run there for the week. The campus is a beautiful rural farm area on the outskirts of Sydney, approximately 65kms from the main Sydney campus. The campus is approximately 6kms from the Camden town centre.

There is a range of accommodation available in Camden ranging from caravans to motels. At certain times of the year there are rooms available at the Nepean Lodge on campus. Please contact the Camden properties office for details on +61 02 9351 1622. There is a very limited public transport service to the campus from Camden.

Students are best advised to have their own transport or arrange car pooling with other students.
