Career History
Dr Zaki graduated from the University of Sydney in 1992 and worked in a busy mixed practice in Sydney’s West. After two years in private practice she commenced work and postgraduate training in anaesthesia at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney (UVTHS), under the supervision of Dr Martin Pearson. Dr Zaki was later employed as a Senior Registrar in Veterinary Anaesthesia at the UVTHS.

Dr Zaki is a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, Anaesthesia and Critical Care Chapter, and has been an examiner for the College.

Special Interests
Her area of expertise is in small animal anaesthesia, and her main interests are pain management, intravenous anaesthesia and anaesthesia for cardiothoracic surgery.

Career History
Dr Ticehurst is a Senior Registrar in Veterinary Anaesthesia and the Head of The Anaesthesia Business Unit at the UVTHS. She is also the Unit of Study Coordinator for the final year students.

She graduated from Sydney University in 1981 and worked for a short time in private practice before returning to complete a Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia under the supervision of Dr Jan Ilkiw. Dr Ticehurst then worked for a number of years as a tutor in Veterinary Anaesthesia before leaving to have a family. She trained veterinary nurses and animal attendants at TAFE before returning to the UVTHS in 2001.

Special Interests
Dr Ticehurst ’s principal interests are small animal anaesthesia in particular the use of local anaesthetic techniques and cardiac arrhythmias occurring under anaesthesia

Dr Cheryl MacPherson

Career History
Cheryl is a registrar in Veterinary Anaesthesia. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1995 and has worked mainly in small animal practice since. Cheryl has spent the greater part of the past 5 years working as an emergency and critical care clinician in after-hours practice and passed her membership exams in this field in 2003.

After a 14 month sojourn to Thailand where she worked with rescued wildlife, Cheryl returned to join the UVTHS anaesthesia unit as a Registrar, in early 2007.

Special Interests
She is interested in focusing on the more intensive aspects of anaesthesia while assisting with student training in anaesthesia and critical care medicine.

Ms Holly Smith

Holly has been working as a veterinary nurse since 2002, and joined the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney in 2007. During her time in private practice she worked at a clinic which worked closely with the Sydney Dogs and Cats home in Carlton. Holly has been an active member of WIRES since 2001.

She has owned and ridden horses for over 20 years (the special 'Sgt Pepper'), has a great love of dogs, namely 'Cooper', birds and also has a keen interest in wildlife, amongst her favourites are possums and flying foxes.

Career History
Carolina joined the UVTHS in 2005, and recently joined the anaesthesia team. She devotes her time making sure that all our patients are comfortable and content. Carolina graduated from Ultimo TAFE in 2001 where she completed Certificate III and IV in Veterinary Nursing. During this time she spent six and a half years in a branch practice in the Sutherland Shire where
she gained a broad range of knowledge within private practice.

Special Interests
Carolina’s interests include dentistry, emergency and critical care and grooming. In her spare time Carolina enjoys spending time with her own furry family.
