Each year events are held, Faculty and University wide, specifically for postgraduate students. This page hopes to provide you with a run down of past events so that you can see what may arise in the following year. It will also endeavour to add new information on forthcoming events as soon as it becomes available in an attempt to help you remain informed of the possibilities.

Sydney Seminar Series

Each year there are a series of seminars showcasing research and other topics of interest within the Faculty of Veterinary Science and beyond.

Each week sees 1 or more seminars on interesting subjects presented by postgraduates and/or academics from both inside and outside the Faculty.

Everyone is welcome to attend!

For a timetable, see here.

Camden Seminars

The Camden seminar series takes place on alternate Thursdays in the General Teaching Building. Each week it features two speakers from the campus, who can be postgrads to professors and all in between.

Everyone is welcome to attend this social Faculty event. For the timetable, see here.

GenStat course

If you use GenStat or are intending to do so within your research, then this will be a very useful course for you. It is a introductory course which will give you an overview of the GenStat system as well as the basic skills required to begin analysing and visualising data in GenStat.

See the information document here for more details on the course and for the registration form.

For information on where you can get access to the GenStat program in the Faculty of Veterinary Science, please contact Peter Thomson on either or +61 2 9351 1654.

Unfortunately it is not free, so you will need to ask your supervisor whether support is available or consider paying for it yourself - the fees are very reasonable for this kind of thing.

2007

Faculty of Veterinary Science, Postgraduate Conference

The Faculty of Veterinary Science holds a Postgraduate Conference every year, alternating the venue between Camden and Sydney.

2007's conference was held at the VSCC in Sydney and featured presentations from the majority of enrolled higher research degree students. SUPRA held an awareness event on the Monday lunchtime and catered for everyone with a BBQ and the Teaching and Learning Centre provided a workshop on procrastination and time management on the Tuesday.

The conference is primarily to allow students to practise their presentation skills and showcase their work in front of an informed and enthusiastic audience. It also provides an opportunity for students to display posters they may have presented at national and international conferences throughout the previous year.

The conference proceedings can be found here.

A list of prize winners for each session can be found here.

Each year, all research students are expected to present. You will be informed of the dates well in advance and the finer details closer to the time.

SUPRA Postgraduate Conference - Connect

The SUPRA postgraduate conference takes place every year and acts as a free, catered introduction to the different topics of study taking place across all the disciplines of the University of Sydney. It is well attended and provides an opportunity for postgraduate students to socialise and share their experiences of postgrad life as well as learn more about what is provided for them.

The 2007 program can be viewed here on the SUPRA website.

Keep watch for the 2008 conference by subscribing to be a member (its free!) or regularly checking the SUPRA website.
