Evaluation and Appeals

All members of staff are committed to the welfare of students and we welcome feedback. We strive to treat all students fairly and to be as transparent as possible about our methods of administration and assessment.

Information on evaluation methods and appeals can be found here.

Evaluation

Your views and suggestions are invaluable to us, as they help us to improve the degree for the benefit of yourself and other students. Students are welcome to provide ongoing feedback to postgraduate coordinators. Other forms of feedback include:

Student Research Experience Questionnaire (SREQ)

This questionnaire is the equivalent of the SCEQ, but for postgraduate research students. It is designed to highlight strengths and weaknesses in course structure and organisation that influence students’ overall research experiences.

Although the questionnaire is voluntary, we value student feedback as it helps to improve the course so that students and supervisors gain the most beneficial experience from the research process.

You can find out more about the SREQ and download a copy of the form at http://www.itl.usyd.edu.au/sreq/

You will be offered an exit interview if you leave your higher research degree before completing it. Please consider taking up this offer as it will help to prevent other students leaving for the same reason in the future if we can learn about how to avoid similar situations occurring and it may help you to summarise and deal with what has happened.

Appeals

Any issue raised by a student will be dealt with promptly and professionally by all staff members involved. We take all student concerns seriously and no student will be discriminated against for making a complaint.

You can find more information regarding the appeals process at the Student Centre, SUPRA or in the Postgraduate studies handbook, available online at http://www.usyd.edu.au/handbooks/handbooks_admin/postgraduate.shtml.

If you have any concerns about any academic decision that may affect your research progress, you should first discuss your concerns informally with your supervisor. If the issue is not resolved by this means, you may approach the postgraduate coordinator with your complaint, informally or in writing.

The next levels of the appeals process within the Faculty are to contact the Sub-dean for Postgraduate Education and Research Training, then the Dean of Veterinary Science.
