How to Apply
Once you know what you want to do, you need to apply.
This can seem like quite a daunting process, but your potential supervisor and/or Merran Govendir (Sub-Dean for Education and Reseach Training) and Tess La-Lande (Postgraduate Admin) can help you if you have any queries, see contacts pages.
Information on dates, where to submit your application and contact details for International and Local Applicant queries are as follows.
General Application Process
These are the basics...
If you are unsure whether you are classed as a local or an international student, click here to find out.
If you are applying for a project which already has funding attached (see Postgraduate Opportunities) then you need to apply for these by contacting the supervisor involved regarding the project and apply following their instructions. As part of this application, you must also complete an application for candidature, which needs to be submitted to the Faculty Office/International Office.
If you are applying for a higher research degree which DOES NOT have funding attached, you have to apply for candidature through contact with your potential supervisor and submission of an application to the Faculty Office (local students) or International Office (international students).
For the latter type, if you ALSO want to receive a scholarship, this has to be applied for separately. Please be aware that the Research Office/International Office will probably want to know that your candidature has been accepted by the Faculty before they can rank your application for a scholarship. This will involve the co-operation of your potential supervisor and possibly acceptance of candidature by the Faculty too.
International Applicants
Candidature
International applications for candidature should be submitted to the International Office by October 31st for consideration for entry for March the following year; or, by April 30th for consideration for entry in July that year.
Late applications may be considered, though the International Office does not guarantee they will be processed in time for the proposed start date.
Please see here for more information on the application process and access to the application form.
Scholarships
If you want to apply for a scholarship/stipend to fund your living expenses during the time of your higher research degree, you will need to apply for this in addition to applying for candidature and these close EARLIER in the year.
Applications must be made by:
July 31st for March entry the following year, and,
December 31st for July entry the following year.
The EIPRS and USydIS scholarships can be applied for on the general candidature application form from the International Office and have the earlier closing dates listed above.
There are a number of different options available though. For further information and a breakdown of scholarship options, see the International Office's scholarship list.
And please note that dates and requirements may change - you should always check with the international office before applying.

Candidature

Late applications may be considered.

Scholarships
If your chosen degree project does not come with funding, for the chance to receive a scholarship/stipend, local students must submit a separate application for a VCRS/APA/UPA by:
October 31st for Semester 1 start or
mid June for Semester 2 start.
These must be done in addition to applications for candidature as you cannot be ranked for scholarship unless your candidature with the Faculty has been accepted.
For more information, see VCRS/APA/UPA information
Students may also be able to apply for funding from bequests left to the Faculty. The eligibility criteria, value and tenure are similar to that of the APA and application for Faculty scholarships is automatic upon application for a APA/UPA through The University of Sydney Research Office.
Applicants who do not expect to satisfy the APA/UPA eligibility criteria should (a) complete the APA/UPA form and submit it directly to the Faculty of Veterinary Science and (b) request the referees to submit their reports directly to the Faculty by 31 October. Further information is available from the Faculty Office.
