Career History
Andrew graduated from UQ in 1984. He then did a 1 year internship and Dip VCS at Sydney, followed by a 3 year equine residency in private practice with Reg Pascoe at Oakey Veterinary Hospital. After that, he completed a 3 year Large Animal Surgery Residency at the University of California at Davis before spending 2 years as staff surgeon at UC Davis.
On returning to Australia, he completed 1 year in private practice in Tamworth then rejoined The University of Sydney in 1994, initially as a Senior Registrar and Head of Equine Medicine and Surgery. Then in 2001 he became an Associate Professor and was also given the position of Hospital Director at the University Veterinary Teaching Hostpital in Camden (formerly UVCC).

Research Interests
Andrew is interested in equine and camelid clinical research. He has considerable experience with horses and alpacas and is well known for his clinical abilities with these and other large animals. He conducts clinical and contract research trials as well as undertaking original research in these areas.

Research Interests
Leo Jeffcott graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1967. After graduation he went to the Animal Health Trust in Suffolk as assistant pathologist where he completed a PhD on passive transfer of immunity in foals and worked in general equine diagnostic pathology.

In 1972 he became a clinician and developed interests in orthopaedics, radiology and back/spinal problems. Professor Jeffcott went to Sweden in 1981 for 14 months as Professor of Clinical Radiology and pursued radiological research including linear tomography of the sacroiliac region in horses.

In 1982 he took up an appointment as Professor of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of Melbourne where he stayed for 9 years and developed a sports medicine laboratory to study the effects of training on bone in young racehorses. He was awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Science in 1989 from the University of Melbourne. Two years later, he was offered the position of Dean of the Veterinary School in Cambridge, UK where he extended his research into the investigation of the developmental skeletal condition of horses, osteochondrosis.

In October 2004 he returned to Australia to become Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science in the University of Sydney.

Professor Jeffcott has also had a long association with the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) and has been an official vet at the last five Olympics, including serving as the President of the Veterinary Commission at the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games. During this time he pursued his other interest in research associated with exercise physiology of horses competing under extremes of heat and humidity.

Research Interests
Paul’s research focus is on abnormal and unwelcome behaviours in companion and exotic species, especially those that affect welfare. A keen animal trainer, he is also interested in learning theory as applied to animal training and behaviour modification. His expertise in dog and horse behaviour is recognised by those interested in urban animal management. He is continually developing models for the use of information technology in teaching and epidemiological research.

Apart from numerous original research articles, Paul has written four books on behaviour and edited ten on pet care.

Research Interests]

Gary is interested in equine infectious diseases, specifically Rhodococcus equi pneumonia and equine transport pneumonia and the use of aerosol culture method to detect respiratory pathogens in the horse. He’s also interested in molecular diagnostics and the use of sequencing techniques to identify unusual bacterial and fungal agents. In addition, he has an interest in educational research, investigating methods to improve student learning and application of veterinary knowledge.

Career History
Christine graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1995 and went on to complete an internship in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M the following year. She then spent the next three years doing an equine surgery residency at UC Davis before coming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2000. She remained at UC Davis as staff clinician until 2003, when she relocated to Australia and joined the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Camden (formerly UVCC) at the University of Sydney.

Research Interests
Christine is interested in lameness and poor performance in horses as well as investigations into degenerative joint disease.
