Career History

John has worked mostly in small animal practice in Sydney’s north shore but has also completed locums in Australia and the UK. After 12 years in practice, he started teaching organisational behaviour and management, professional practice, equine studies and business management at the University of Western Sydney.

In 2003, John was appointed to the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Sydney to assist with the teaching, management and implementation of the professional practice and new final year program. He is currently the Year 5 and Professional Practice Coordinator.

Research Interests

Veterinary economics, law, ethics and business management.

Career History

Christine graduated in 1993 before working in small animal private practice for 5 years in both Australia and then in the UK.
She returned to Australia in 1999 to undertake a PhD in immunogenetics of autoimmune disease at the Centenary Institute and then in 2005, she started work full-time at the Faculty of Veterinary Science as a Lecturer in Small Animal Clinical Practice.

In 2006, Christine completed a MACVSc in Veterinary Dentistry. Her interest in this has led her to launch a veterinary dental company called ‘Sydney Pet Dentistry’ in 2007 and she is also currently Treasurer, Secretary and NSW representative for the Australian Veterinary Dental Society.

In 2001 she also started in her current position as Lecturer in Professional Practice here at the Faculty of Veterinary Science.

Research Interests

Educational – veterinary undergraduate education in professional practice (transition to practice, communication, ethics)

Dental – aetiology and pathogenesis of periodontal disease and feline tooth resorption

Immunology – canine immune responses to vaccination; feline immune responses to feline coronaviruses in the pathogenesis of feline infectious peritonitis

Career History

After completing her Bachelor degrees, Honours and Certificate II in Small Business Management, Susan worked as a Veterinarian in Kippax General Hospital in Canberra. She then went on to become a Practice Administrator at Weston Creek Veterinary Hospital and also studied for a Graduate Certificate in Management (Veterinary Science), which she gained from Charles Sturt University.

In 2004 she began to work part time as a lecturer, tutor and demonstrator at the University of Sydney whilst studying for her PhD. This has culminated in her achieving a lecturer position in the Faculty of Veterinary Science in 2007, where she lectures on Professional Practice.

Career History

After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1982 with a BVSc (Hons 1), Rosanne worked in veterinary practice completing a Diploma of Veterinary Clinical Studies, before undertaking a PhD on the treatment of neurological disease. She was then involved in implementing animal research legislation whilst working as a Veterinary Officer and Branch Manager at the NSW Animal Welfare Branch of the NSW Government and following this, she took up a postdoctoral fellow position at the University of Pennsylvania. During this time her work provided early evidence of the value of stem cell and gene therapy for treating severe brain disease.

In 1994, Rosanne returned to The University of Sydney to take up a part time associate lecturer position and became an associate professor, teaching in neuroscience, physiology, animal biotechnology and animal science. In 2001, she completed the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and became Chair of the Faculty for Teaching and Learning Committee, where her interest in educational research was developed. She then became Sub-Dean for Student Learning and more recently took on the position of Sub-Dean for Teaching and Learning.

During her time at The University of Sydney, Rosanne has won a number of awards, many related to teaching and learning. They include: Australian College of Veterinary Sciences Ian Clunies Ross Award in 1999, the Faculty's Pfizer Teaching Award and Grace Mary Mitchell Award in 2001, the Vice Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2002 and she was a national finalist in biological sciences category for the Australian University Teaching Awards in 2002 and 2003.

Rosanne is currently leading an education innovations project in the Faculty funded by Thyne Reid Trust to develop activities that support learning through inquiry in veterinary and animal science.
