Food composition, particularly of animal products; bone health; public health nutrition particularly of developing countries; food and nutrition policy, with particular reference to dairy products.

Research Interests
Michelle completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, specialising in Animal Science, in 1988. She next worked for two years as a research assistant in the then Department of Animal Science, studying vitamin D metabolism in rainbow trout and dairy cattle. This work led to her PhD studies on the influence of vitamin D metabolites upon hypocalcaemia in the dairy cow.

Upon completion of her degree Michelle began a position as Lecturer in Animal Sciences and now teaches Animal Industries and Animal Nutrition to undergraduate students in the BVSc and An.Vet. Bio. degree programs. Michelle also supervises Honours and Postgraduate students undertaking nutrition related projects.

Her research interests are varied and include vitamin D metabolism in production animals as well as aspects of wildlife and captive animal nutrition.

Michelle has long had an interest in improving student learning outcomes and the student experience and she also has research interests in this area. She has been awarded a Vice Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award, The Australian College of Educators Accomplished Teachers Award and been a finalist for The Australian Universities Teaching Committee Excellence in Teaching Award.
