Discontinuation of Enrolment and Readmission
Discontinuing your enrolment in a degree
If you stop participating in classes and wish to discontinue your enrolment in a degree, you need to state this in writing and submit it to the Learner Support Coordinator. It is important to note that if you discontinue your enrolment, you will not be able to re-enrol in the same degree or diploma unless you are readmitted into that degree/diploma.
Discontinuing your enrolment in a unit of study
If you discontinue enrolment from a full year or first semester unit of study within your degree/diploma on or before the census date for semester 1 (31 March), it will be recorded as a withdrawal from that unit. Likewise if you discontinue enrolment from a second semester unit of study on or before the census date for semester 2 (31 August), it will be recorded as a withdrawal from that unit.
Discontinuation of your enrolment in a unit of study after the withdrawal period but before the end of classes will be recorded as 'Discontinued with Permission' in that unit, unless the degree or diploma resolutions permit otherwise. See the Faculty of Veterinary Science Resolutions of the Senate for more information.
Restrictions upon re-enrolment after discontinuation
If you wish to re-enrol in a degree, diploma or course, you may be asked to show good cause as to why you should be permitted to repeat any previously attempted study. 'Good cause' generally constitutes serious ill health or misadventure, however other reasons may be considered. Additionally, your academic record from previous years in other courses (from your degree/diploma within the Faculty of Veterinary Science or from another Faculty within the University of Sydney, if you are transferring from that Faculty) will also be taken into account. These two criteria will determine your liability for exclusion from re-enrolment.
The resolutions of the Senate restricting re-enrolment may be found in the University's Calendar, Vol. I: Statutes and Regulations. If you are in any doubt about your liability for exclusion following discontinuation of a degree/diploma or course, you should seek advice from the Learner Support Coordinator.
Re-enrolment after absence
If you were previously enrolled, or were given 'repeat' status after you discontinued all courses during the previous year, and are eligible to re-enrol in the same degree or diploma, you are required to submit an Application for Re-enrolment by 30 November in the year before you wish to recommence study at the Student Centre.
