Course Method

 

The Master of Veterinary Public Health Management (MVPHMgt) is a coursework program comprised of:

  • Distance education units of study
  • Three short residential blocks
  • Research project

Course Objectives

 
  • To develop knowledge and skills in veterinary public health particularly veterinary epidemiology, food science, zoonoses, disease control, animal health economics and animal health policy development
  • To develop particular expertise in one or more relevant fields of veterinary public health according to the electives chosen by the student
  • To develop applied skills in leadership and project management relevant in the modern work environments of animal health professionals
  • To develop skills in research methods via a research project which addresses both the technical research and management issues involved

Who should do this course?

 

Animal health professionals who want to a career in veterinary public health and need particular expertise in technical and managerial aspects to be better equipped to work in a multidisciplinary and increasingly prominent field of animal health.

Course Structure

 

Candidates must complete 10 core units of study, including a 6 credit point research project, and up to 9 credit points of elective units, for a total of 48 credit points. The research project will be worth either 6 or 12 credit points. Students doing a 6 credit point research project need to complete 3 elective units of study. Students doing a 12 credit point research project need to complete only 1 elective unit of study.

Course Length

 

A part-time candidate for the Masters in Veterinary Public Health Management shall complete the requirements for the award in a minimum of 6 semesters and a maximum of 8 semesters. Exception to this to complete the course within 9 semesters of admission to candidature can only be granted with permission from the Dean.

Entry Requirements

 

A Bachelor degree in veterinary science, animal science or equivalent, or a Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Public Health Management or Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Public Health Management with a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70 in the first 24 credit points of candidature.
