Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience (BAnVetBioSc)

The Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience was introduced in 2005 and involves studies in animal health and disease, genetics and biotechnology, animal behaviour, welfare and handling, reproduction, systems management (both natural and farming) and animal nutrition in the context of animal production, management, wildlife studies and research. It is an applied science degree blending a science foundation with fields specific to animal science and incorporating a large amount of practical work. Emphasis will be placed on the development of analytical, quantitative, computing and communication skills, as well as practical animal handling and management.

Duration

The degree is of four years duration. Part time study is also available.

Honours

Honours may be awarded at graduation on the basis of performance.

Assumed Knowledge

Mathematics and Chemistry; Biology would also be an advantage. Bridging courses are available for enrolling students that have not completed the assumed level of knowledge.

Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries), secondary and tertiary education and overseas aid.

Students are required to undertake practical experience with relevant animal or animal-related enterprises, businesses, government departments, research and volunteer organisations throughout their degree. Professional Development is an integral part of the BAnVetBioSc that students find challenging and rewarding. It is an excellent way for students to pursue and develop specific areas of interest, and make contacts that may assist them in their graduate careers.
