Summary
The aim of the Veterinary Epidemiology 2 unit of study is to give students an advanced understanding of the principles involved in the design of epidemiological studies. It will coincide with the planning phase of the research project required in the second year of the Masters degree program. Students can design their research project during the Veterinary Epidemiology 2 unit of study.
Learning Outcomes
After completing Veterinary Epidemiology 2, students will be able to design an appropriate epidemiology study to investigate a specific research question, including the:
- sampling procedure;
- data collection tools;
- database for data storage and manipulation;
- statistical procedures;
- methods to manage confounders, clustering and collinearity;
- presentation of research results.
Assumed Knowlege
This unit of study builds on student generic skills (problem solving, critical evaluation and research process) and epidemiological knowledge acquired in the prerequisite unit Veterinary Epidemiology 1.
Assessment
Assessment of this unit of study will include:
- participation of the student in the weekly online discussions and other learning activities in the online classroom (15%);
- a group assignment (35%);
- an online quiz (10%);
- an individual assignment (40%).
