Course Requirements - Coursework Programs
The section below sets out the admission requirements for the various graduate programs in Veterinary Science. For more information about University admission regulations, consult the Faculty Handbook.
Experience or further training undertaken subsequent to a first degree will be included in any assessment of eligibility for admission.
Master of Veterinary Studies (MVetStud)
The University of Sydney has developed an articulated postgraduate coursework program in Veterinary Studies (VetStud), which was launched in Semester 1, 2007. The VetStud program will replace the existing Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies and Master of Veterinary Studies degrees.
It will be offered at Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters levels:
- Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Studies
- Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Studies
- Master of Veterinary Studies
There are two ways of completing a postgraduate degree in Veterinary Studies:
- Completing a major: this requires you to follow a set curriculum that may include selecting elective units of study.
- Completing a generic program in Veterinary Studies. This is a fully flexible pathway, which means you can select the units of study that best suit your interests and career plans. There are conditions and limitations attached to some units of study and you should consult with staff during the application process
Majors in Veterinary Studies
In 2009, the postgraduate program in Veterinary Studies will be offering the following major:
- Small Animal Clinical Studies**
As a supervised major, admission is dependent on acceptance for an internship at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital and places are highly competitive.
Completing a major will mean that you will graduate with that major listed formally on your testamur. This will require you to complete specified core and elective coursework units and, if studying towards a Master of Veterinary Studies, original scientific investigations in an area related to your major.
* Employment in the relevant University Veterinary Centre will be a condition of enrolment.
* Students must possess a veterinary qualification registrable in NSW and be able to work full-time in Australia.
