Animal and Veterinary Bioscience Professional Experience Requirements from 2007

All students must complete 60 days of professional experience by 14 January of the year of graduation. Reports handed in after this date will not be marked until the July semester.

General requirements

All students must complete:

  • 20 days farm experience, which must include time spent at a minimum of three different animal production enterprises
  • 40 days experience at other appropriate organisations, which must include at least one business placement AND either one scientific or one short term volunteer placement.
  • You may spend a maximum of 20 days at any single property/organisation (farm or non-farm)
  • You may credit up to 15 days experience gained on a property owned by your family or on a University-owned farm, but this will not count towards the 20 days farm experience.

NB: the 40 days of 'other' experience may include time spent on farms.

Farm experience requirements

  • Must be at commercial and not hobby farms
  • Students must complete placements on at least three different animal production enterprises
  • Students must complete a minimum of two long and one short farm reports

Non-farm experience requirements

  • Students must complete at least one business/service provider placement
  • Students must complete at least one scientific OR one short term scientific or conservation volunteer placement
  • Students complete additional placements and reports (farm or non-farm) as needed to fulfil the 60 day requirement

Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources excursions

  • You must attend one of the North Western, South Western or Central NSW excursions arranged by the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources during your course of study. You may attend all excursions, if desired.
  • A maximum of 15 days of professional experience can be gained on excursions, provided a satisfactory report is submitted.
  • Excursions may not count towards the 20 days required farm experience.
  • Credit for the first excursion will be based upon satisfactory completion of the excursion handbook. For additional excursions, a 1000 word report must be submitted. The excursion declaration (available in the excursion handbook) must be completed by a member of staff, if experience is to be credited.
