Course Method

Course Objectives
- To develop knowledge and skills in animal breeding, specifically animal genetics, genetic evaluation, optimal selection and breeding program design, animal biotechnology and ethics
- To develop enhanced skills in communication, teamwork, leadership and management relevant to the contemporary agricultural economy and workplace
Who should do this course?
People with a science background who are or want to work to enhance livestock industries by applying relevant technical knowledge in genetics and breeding program design as well as leadership and managerial skills.
Course Structure
Candidates must complete 5 core units of study and 2 electives, for a total of 36 credit points.

- VETS7026 Leadership: Managing Change (Semester 1)
- VETS8004 Advanced Animal Genetics (Semester 1)

Elective
- VETS8008 Advanced Animal Reproduction (Semester 1)
- VETS8003 Advanced Applications of Animal Breeding (Semester 1)

Course Length
A full-time candidate will complete the requirements for the Graduate Diploma in a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum of 4 semesters. A part-time candidate will complete the requirements for the Graduate Diploma in a minimum of 3 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters.
Entry Requirements
A Bachelor degree in veterinary science, animal science or equivalent OR Graduate Certificate in Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management).
