Graduate Attributes

These graduate attributes are understood to reflect the graduate attributes of the Master of Animal Science, with specific reference to the ABMgt program.

Graduate Certificate ABMgt Graduates

ABMgt aims to produce graduates of the Graduate Certificate program who:

  • possess a deep understanding of the principles of animal genetics and the science underpinning the practice of animal breeding
  • can legally and ethically apply sound scientific procedures in developing analyzing, and evaluating animal breeding programs
  • are able to communicate complex information to people from a wide range of educational and social backgrounds, work in multidisciplinary teams and be influential agents of change
  • use evidence to reflect on their own professional behaviour, adjust work practices and make sound decisions on the basis of good managerial practice
  • acknowledge the limits of their own knowledge, seek advice and use information technology to locate relevant information, which they can evaluate to continually enhance their knowledge and work practices
  • can apply analytical and critical thinking for creative problem solving and use enterprise, initiative and creativity as a means of contributing to animal breeding industries
  • work collaboratively to enhance the knowledge, skills and practices of their professional community

Graduate Diploma ABMgt Graduates

ABMgt aims to produce graduates of the Graduate Diploma program who also:

  • can advise on the social, technical ethical and legal conditions in which animal breeding programs should be planned and implemented
  • can use a range of breeding technologies to boost animal productivity and health in consideration of the economic, social and ecological needs of farm and the livestock industries
  • can formulate alternative breeding strategies and will be able to compare them appropriately
  • can implement advanced technologies in animal breeding projects

Masters of ABMgt Graduates

ABMgt aims to produce graduates of the Masters program who also:

  • are familiar with a very wide range of current literature and practice in animal breeding
  • acknowledge the rapid pace of change in their industries and seek to enhance global knowledge in animal genetics and breeding
  • draw on both theoretical and practical knowledge of animal genetics and breeding to create new knowledge that contributes to the sustainability of agricultural industries
  • plan, design, conduct and evaluate scientific ethical research in animal breeding in a professional manner
